Mark Batterson’s current sermon series The Elephants in the Church is an intriguing look at talking about issues the often don’t get talked about.
In a post he did to prep the series he asks the question: What are the elephants in the church?
He’s received over 70 eye-opening comments answering that question. Check it out and leave your own.

I think the elephants have been the same elephants since the beginning and really it comes down to we are people…we arent like Christ.
We are bigoted, closeminded, judgemental, nonconfrontational..etc etc etc.
I pray for God’s grace that I don’t get in the way of His great work.

All of those responses are so good. At Journey (shameless plug - http://www.journey242.com) we try to be as real as possible. We do try to tackle most of the deeper issues in relationship with one another, especially in small group where we can really discuss things with people you trust to be open and honest with you.
I think one thing that really sticks out in my mind is making our communities our mission field. We don’t do that nearly enough. We hear about people going to other countries to witness to the lost, but we are living in a country that is becoming less and less Christian. And those of us who are Christian are becoming less and less authentic. I only say that because I’m guilty of it myself. I’ve really been asking God to speak to me in times when I need to be Jesus to someone. It should be all the time, but unfortunately I have to take baby steps right now.
