Billy-bob, that was some great stuff. I wish you lived a little closer so we could jam! I’m sending this to our acoustic players…

Great stuff…this is very helpful for growing music teams. We just added a second electric guitar and a cello, so being aware of different “color” and ranges/frequencies is becoming increasingly important.
Right on!

Great stuff man, and thanks for the props. Are you formally taught or self-taught? Just wondering as you voice and think like several of our Univ of North Texas guys.

Alex,
Yeah, it’d be kewl to rock out. Maybe I’ll get a job in so cal.
Stephen,
cello rocks.
Daniel,
This made my day man. Seriously. Let’s just say I’ve been editing the same video for 4 days in a row, suffered countless technical glitches and set backs, and was quite depressed today. Thanx.
Chris,
It’s an Ibanez with a Fishman pickup.
Jordan,
I’m mostly self taught, although I did take a music theory class at Concordia University in Ann Arbor, MI. Those UNT guys sound pretty smart to me

Great post Billy! I think what you are describing is one of the biggest challenges for an acoustic guitar player in a band like CFC’s. I came to CFC from a setting where I was often the only instrument and had to fill up the entire musical space, so I had to learn this too.
At CFC on Sunday, the sound mix was particularly good and I could hear your guitar well–you did an excellent job of adding to the sound and not muddying it up.

Wow. This is REALLY good stuff, and a GREAT lesson on the concept of the “sonic pocket.” Great stuff for a lesson on “worship band theory.”
